Welcome to Mrs. Ellis’ class at Bowling Green! It has been a pure joy getting to know each one of these students and we are all excited for what the year has in store. So far we have been talking a lot about working as a team and experimenting with our behavior system: Class Dojo. We’ve also been using our GROWTH MINDSET to set goals for the year individually and as a class. Let me know if you have any questions as we get into the swing of back to school!
Here is a copy of the August newsletter that will be sent home in homework folders on Monday:
Here are copies of the students’ homework which will be given out on a weekly basis in case you need another copy:
Reading Log: Reading Log
Dojo Tracker: Dojo Weekly Points Tracker Half
We will be starting a new Reading Log for homework this week and continuing for the next month. I’m hoping this log will help students use critical thinking as they read and practice writing with complete sentences!
As we are coming back from winter break, we will be starting our new unit in science on simple machines. One hands on way we incorporate learning about simple machines every year is by having students create a simple or compound machine. This project is to be completed at home and turned in Wednesday, Jan. 24th.
Attached are the project rubric and a study guide on simple machines.
Also, here is a link to some project ideas. Your machine can be as simple or complex as you’d like!
Here are our January updates!
Report cards for the 2nd Nine Weeks go home on Friday. I also included the information on how to log onto Dreambox Math in case you need it again. As always, feel free to contact me through phone, email or Remind if you have any questions or concerns. Thanks!
We’ve been using this song in math to remember our coins and their worth during our money unit. WARNING: its pretty catchy!
Here is a picture our class’ story book character pumpkin as well as some others! We chose to create Harry Potter from our chapter book read aloud Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
