Welcome to Mrs. Ellis’ class at Bowling Green! It has been a pure joy getting to know each one of these students and we are all excited for what the year has in store. So far we have been talking a lot about working as a team and experimenting with our behavior system: Class Dojo. We’ve also been using our GROWTH MINDSET to set goals for the year individually and as a class. Let me know if you have any questions as we get into the swing of back to school!
If you have not already, please connect on Class Dojo & Remind (code: ellisbg).

Bowling Green is starting a movement in November to encourage our students to be kind. In our classroom, we have been reading the book Wonder by RJ Palcio since the beginning of the year. In this book, kindness is a huge theme. We read it to remind ourselves how to treat others and to work as a team. Throughout the book, August’s teacher Mr. Brown has a series of precepts (Ask your student what this word means!). So far we have read the first, listed below. Everyday will be talking about how we can implement this precept in our daily lives and I encourage you to continue the conversation at home too. Be on the lookout for Mr. Brown’s next precept!
Everyday in our classroom we use Go Noodle for our “brain breaks”. Research shows that our brains benefit from movement and exercise. Taking 2-5 minutes to excerise throughout the day increases student engagement and learning (not to mention, they’re really fun)! You can use these videos at home too at www.gonoodle.com .
On Thursday during our whole group reading, we did a “Reading Carousel” activity in which students read short stories in groups to find the Main Idea and supporting details. The students loved getting to read along with their peers, rotating around to each book and sharing their findings!
This past week we have been working on rounding. Here is the song we’ve been practicing to remember our rules. Feel free to sing it at home to help out your student!
